Carmesi-Nextiles Partnership

A couple of years ago we received an email about developing an unusual garment. Essentially, it was a sleeve with some special electronics attached to it. Dr. George Sun, a trained computer scientist and electrical engineer, wanted to make some prototypes with us! We were intrigued, and invited him to the studio. Little did we know that years later we would still be developing new products and growing at an exponential rate. 

On this journey we discovered that the experienced sewer will have to add some more skills to his or her belt to do the work. When constructing the garment, we must realize that not only must it function it the traditional sense but also be aware of the technical, electronical aspects. In short, your clothing is now a circuit board that needs to be tested. 

To prepare, we are training the next generation of sewers to help us usher in the new age of wearable technology! Conductive thread made from copper, steel, and gold! Computerized, cutting edge, sewing machines, capable of the most intricate patterns with laser precision. 3D printing parts of the garment! The industry is changing and we want to get ahead of the wave.

With the help of the Nextiles team we are developing new techniques for sewing and adding more value to the sewer. Training the next generation of sewers and merging the fashion and garment making industry into the technology space just makes sense and we are excited about what the next several years will bring us.
